Meet The Photographer

Hi friends!

I'm sure you all have read my "About Me" page on here and I bet it is a no brainer that I love to travel! I love exploring new places and scaling high mountains. I love meeting people who share the same passion that I have for the outdoors and this world. I am so blessed and grateful for all of the adventures I have been on in the last few years and have planned for this year!

The other side of me you might not know is my life when I am not traveling or photographing weddings. I always think that my life is pretty normal. I live in Lafayette, Indiana where I grew up. I have lived in Georgia, Colorado, Bloomington, and on the banks of the Mississippi River! A large reason I am able to travel like I do is because I have awesome friends from college and internships that let me crash on their couches and show me around their towns! Those are some of my favorite trips!

Another huge reason I am able to go on these long adventures and take time off is my amazing support I have at home. Yes, I love traveling, but I also love the feeling of coming home. I never thought I would end up in Indiana but I have slowly began to grow roots here. The man pictured below is a huge reason for that. He pushes me so hard to do what I want to do and there are some days that he believes in me more than I do myself. He never lets me worry about anything and gives me the best advice. He is also the best cat dad, lego Star Wars player, kayaking partner, and late night chef. I have never laughed so hard in my life than when I am with him.

I also have a badass family behind me! For years they have supported every decision and crazy idea I have had. They have edited my blogs, critiqued my work, and help me think of new ideas and adventures along the way. They also join me for some of my adventures, which is even better! I don't get to see them very often but when I do we always lose track of time! I was encouraged to follow my dreams, make mistakes, change my mind, and make more mistakes. My mom, my dad, and my two sisters raised the bar high for me and pushed me to reach it, especially when I wanted to quick. They were there in the beginning, and I know they will be there in the end. They always remind me that life is too short to be unhappy.

This is a little bit about me! Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions you have!

New Years Resolution!

I'm not much for making resolutions. Every weekend I say that when Monday comes around, I'm going to get things done, eat better, workout more and so many other things. I make almost 52 resolutions a year that I end up breaking by the time Monday rolls around.

However, despite my epic fails in make resolutions and breaking my personal promises to myself, I have decided to make a New Years resolution for 2018. That resolution is to write about my adventures. I'm not making a number requirement or a schedule to stick with. I just going to remind myself about why I started my photography business and this website to begin with...to share my stories and the stories of those I meet through photography. Each day is an adventure and I continue to hope that those adventures can inspire others to go after their dreams, try new things, and continue to connect with the world around them. This website is how I plan on continuing to do that.

2017 has been filled with challenges, growth, and many adventures. I have traveled to new places and met some amazing people! I have also been able to connect with old friends and enjoy my days with those I love supporting me and pushing me. I have no doubt that 2018 will be a repeat of all of those things!

One thing I did not do was share my wedding photography with you all! Each wedding reminded me on why I love photographing this special day so much! I get to hang out with people on the best day of their lives where everyone surrounding them is genuinely happy and supportive of the beginning of their lives together. I get to capture smiles, tears, and some crazy dance moves. I am able to make that day last forever for each couple through my photography! What a blessing that is!

This business and my amazing couples have also helped me to be able to go back to school in 2018 and pursue my Masters in Recreational Therapy. Being in the outdoors is the one thing that makes me truly happy and in 2015 I was able to combine my love for photography, the outdoors, and helping others when I joined Warrior Expeditions on a 4 month, 2,300 mile trip down the Mississippi River. This is where I learned that Recreational Therapy was even a thing. I knew my love for the outdoors but I had no idea how it could help people, even myself. During college I struggled with a severe eating disorder that mentally crippled me. I thought I would never be able truly live because I couldn't control my eating in these types of environments. My family and friends pushed me to join the Warrior Expeditions trip and it changed my life...

2018 is going to be a great year and I am so excited to share all my adventures with each and every one of you! Here is just a few things I photographed this year!

Hakuna Matata

For most people, Winter in Indiana is not an ideal time to get married. For photographers, we are prepared for the slow season. During this time we start vamping up our websites, going to networking events and watching editing tutorials. I don't know about other photographers, but once Spring hits and that first wedding comes around, I get anxious and excited and even a little worried. What if I forgot what to do? What if I can't remember any of my go to poses? What if my photo to-do-list that I have in the back of my head for every wedding has disappeared over the winter months? These questions flood into my head as I'm driving down to Indianapolis to shoot my first wedding of the year. (Melissa, if you're reading this, I'm sorry! I promise it gets better, just keep reading!)

As wedding photographers, we have the responsibility of not only taking pretty photos, but creating work that allows the couple to relive one of the best and most important days of their lives weeks, months and years later. No pressure.

It wasn't until I met Melissa, David and their adorable baby Kenzie the morning of the wedding did the worry and anxiety finally fade away. I could not have asked for a more loving, relaxed, and fun couple to photograph my first wedding of 2017 with. The comfort that they showed with me made me feel like a long time friend and as soon as I began photographing, everything just fell into place.

I spent only eight hours with this couple and their family and I am still in awe of how much love they had for one another and how happy they were to share this day with everyone. What impressed me most was despite all the hiccups they faced during that day, the smiles never left their faces and they went on like it was all planned. That to me shows more about what their marriage will be like than anything else.

Melissa and David, thank you both for letting me be a part of your special day! I cannot wait to work with you two in the future!
